Pretty insightful post. Never thought that it was this simple after all. I had spent a good deal of my time looking for someone to explain this subject clearly and you’re the only one that ever did that. Kudos to you! Keep it up

You article definitely was one of the best parts of my Saturday. I was on Yahoo searching for something totally unrelated when the blog caught my attention. I'm glad I took the time to read your blog!

insurance, i don't know as i haven't got a quote but i'm lead to believe about 600-800 euros depending on your age, driving experience etc etc

1. Well nothing modern is going to fit without a little convincing but if your building a beach buggy a little convincing shouldn't put you off. I think 03+ polo ones will fit. Come to think of it, the late VW beelte, the 94-95 ones that where imported from Brazil have modern stalks but are very rare.

2. it depends on the body type you have but generally the wheel arches are fairly open underneath and you would have to drill a hole in the arch for the fuel filler and then another one underneath to get back under the body to the fuel tank. it would be better to keep it on the bonnet someplace, where is up to you. If you can weld you can put it where you like, (remember never weld a used tank), if you want to use the stock locations then you can use an early tank where it is in the bottom right as you look at the car from the front, if you use a late tank it will be in the top left. I bought a new tank and did a bit of cutting and welding so it was in the middle of the bonnet. Remember to consider a breather pipe from your fuel tank also.

3. if you like the lights on the red one with the 5 leaf clover then your in luck, they are original VW lights, there where on the 61-70 beetle, you can get them here VW Hertiage and there are about 35 pound per side.

ideas for light depends on how deep your pockets are, there are some very nice lights out there but generally if you go away from VW units you have to start spending big money, a lot of the top builds use LEDs but you could end up spending 200-300 pound for a set.

where abouts are you based, it might be worth having a chat and a cup of tea!! you could look around my buggy (even get a spin if you have your winter woolies) and figure a few things out. don't be afraid to ask questions, there are not many irish buggies out there
